South-South Knowledge Sharing

ACC CityLab Researchers Liza Cirolia and Mercy Brown Luthango will participate in the IBSA Working Group on Human Settlements convened by South African Cities Network on behalf of the Department of Human Settlements. IBSA is a trilateral arrangement between India, Brazil and South Africa aimed at promoting South-South Cooperation and exchange.

Ray Pahl Research Scholarship

The Fellowship, to be held in the African Centre for Cities (ACC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) will ideally be for the entire calendar year 2014. The starting date may be changed in exceptional cases to accommodate personal circumstances.

Quick Guide 01 – Urban Africa: Building with Untapped Potential

Africa and Asia are at the epicentre of the second large-scale urban transition in the history of the world. The first transition unfolded between 1750 and 1950 in North America and Europe, which saw the urban share of their total population grow from 10% to 52%. The second urban transition has been unfolding largely in the global South since 1950; by 2030 the urban share of the population in this region will have grown from 18% to 56%.
