ACC is driven by the belief that Africa’s urban challenges can only be addressed once there is sufficient endogenous intellectual capital steeped in urban research. We therefore see our success dependent on the growth of durable knowledge networks, focussed on urban issues, across the continent.

ACC at UCT

The ACC Platform represents a flexible network of urban scholars with multiple perspectives and projects, and is used as a resource university-wide by academics to meet, share research, base projects, and contribute to teaching.

Starting from the South

From 25-27 March 2015, the ACC will co-host a meeting to debate efforts to re-locate the center of urban theory-making southward through a comparative analysis of urbanization policies and patterns in South Africa and eastern China.

AAPS Conference 2014

Registration and a call to papers is now open for the AAPS’ fourth all-schools conference in 2014 which takes place in Cape Town from 17-19 November 2014. Titled “African Urban Planning and the Global South: Pedagogy, Research, Practice”; AAPS 2014 will focus on the central themes and problems of African urbanization.

African Urban Research Initiative (AURI)

The African Urban Research Initiative (AURI) was initiated in 2013 to support existing and future Africa-based research centres to inform and enhance the policy actors and networks responsible for sustainable urban policy and management in different African contexts.
