AAPS Conference 2014
Registration and a call to papers is now open for the AAPS’ fourth all-schools conference in 2014 which takes place in Cape Town from 17-19 November 2014. Titled “African Urban Planning and the Global South: Pedagogy, Research, Practice”; AAPS 2014 will focus on the central themes and problems of African urbanization.
OPEN CALL: Density Syndicate
The African Centre for Cities and the International New Town Institute are excited to announce an open call for participation in the Density Syndicate. The Density Syndicate is looking for dynamic Cape Town based urbanists (architects / urban designers / planners) to participate in three studios over the course of 2014.
Informality and Migrant Entrepreneurship
The African Centre for Cities (ACC) hosted a workshop focussing on urban informality and migrant entrepreneurship in Southern Africa on 10 February 2014. The workshop brought together academics who specialise in research on issues of informality, migrants, entrepreneurship and xenophobia, particularly in the Southern African context.
South-South Knowledge Sharing
ACC CityLab Researchers Liza Cirolia and Mercy Brown Luthango will participate in the IBSA Working Group on Human Settlements convened by South African Cities Network on behalf of the Department of Human Settlements. IBSA is a trilateral arrangement between India, Brazil and South Africa aimed at promoting South-South Cooperation and exchange.
Ray Pahl Research Scholarship
The Fellowship, to be held in the African Centre for Cities (ACC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) will ideally be for the entire calendar year 2014. The starting date may be changed in exceptional cases to accommodate personal circumstances.
