Ray Pahl Fellowship in Urban Studies, 2016

Applications are now open for the 2016 Ray Pahl Research Fellowship. The Fellowship is open to post-doctoral scholars with research interests in African cities. We are particularly looking for African scholars residing in and working on the continent who wish to further their research for a 12 month period as part of the ACC.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Public Art and the Power of Place

Individual or groups of artists from, or working in Cape Town’s townships in visual arts, performance, graffiti, music, poetry and/or theatre are invited to apply for a R50000 grant to produce one of six public art engagements that explore the significance of place outside of Cape Town’s City Bowl in this new ACC initiative.

The Unionist

Mina Plaatjies is a domestic worker and trade unionist. She is also a mother of two adolescent children. It is a delicate balancing act fulfilling her duties as domestic labourer, union organiser and weekend mom. Her story, one of the 12 that form part of the City Desired exhibition, is featured in the new issue of Cityscapes Magazine.
